One of many excellent quotes from Mike Mason's book on suffering (available on Kindle): "Being a believer in the Lord is no guarantee against any sort of failure or disaster, including sickness, family breakdown, or complete mental collapse. All God guarantees is that He will be with us and that ultimately we will be saved—and there are bound to come times when even on these promises He will appear to be reneging." (Mason, Mike. The Gospel According to Job, p. 105)

"Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge." (Psalm 62:8) My biggest obstacle to prayer is when I filter the words rather than praying what I'm truly feeling. It is most helpful for me to say out loud to God the good, the bad, the ugly & the lovely. What is really in my heart, no matter how messed up or wonderful, craves to be shared with Jesus. Then the Holy Spirit has room to move around in my soul and bring healing, strength & guidance. Lord, please help me to pour out my heart to you. Amen.
